Introduction – National President – Ludwig Frahm-Arp
As another year draws to an end we take the opportunity to look back on what has been a very successful year for SASLAW and hopefully the same is true for all our members.
We had a super conference in 2018, the SASLAW Pro Bono Project continues to provide invaluable support to litigants in the Labour Court, we successfully opened a new chapter in Polokwane, and the remainder of our chapters grow from strength to strength.
Our relationships with the Labour Court and the CCMA remain critical and are an important avenue of communication. In this regard, the Judge President in our recent meeting raised a concern regarding persons who appear in the Labour Court who are not admitted attorneys but claim to be so. Members are encouraged where they become aware of a person who purports to be an attorney while representing a client in the Labour Court to take the necessary steps to report that person.
A survey was sent out recently and many responses were forthcoming. Thanks to those who took the time to respond and give some suggestions. If you would like responses to your emails, please directly email your chapter administrator, as the survey was anonymous.
Thank you to all those who have expressed an interest in serving the Society. If you indicated that you would like to participate in any committees within SASLAW, please send an email to the chapter administrator in this regard.

Stellenbosch Student Seminar
SASLAW hosted a student seminar in partner with the Stellenbosch University last week at the Legal Aid offices. A huge thank you and acknowledgement to Ebrahiem Abrahams who presented on the topics on affirmative action and In sourcing. Both topics were well presented and the students gave excellent feedback on the content of the presentations and the speaker. Prof Kitty Malherbe was also in attendance and she commended SASLAW for bringing forward this initiative. From both sides we look forward to an ongoing relationship with Stellenbosch and welcoming many new student members.
We would also like to thank and acknowledge the sponsors Global Business Solutions, Cliffe Dekker Hofmeyr, Werkmans Attorneys and Norton Rose for providing items for the student goodie bags.
Please see pictures below in the gallery, and presentation available to logged-in members in the downloads section above.
