SASLAW is a relevant and dynamic association which continues to promote the discipline of Labour Law in South Africa in 2025. The South African Society for Labour Law (SASLAW) is a non-profit organisation. Its ongoing mission is to advance labour law as a rigorous legal and academic discipline and foster meaningful collaboration between lawyers and other labour law professionals. SASLAW maintains a broad professional network of more than 1450 members as of 2025, including judges, advocates, attorneys, candidate attorneys, HR and IR managers, government officials, CCMA commissioners, and representatives of employers\u2019 organisations. Chapters remain active in Gauteng, KwaZulu Natal, Western Cape and Eastern Cape.<\/p>

Conferences and Events<\/b><\/p>

Throughout the year, SASLAW organises seminars, workshops, and webinars on topical and emerging themes in labour law, suited to its diverse membership. Annual conferences represent a flagship event; the 28th SASLAW Annual National Conference will take place on the 17th and 18th of September 2025 at The Boardwalk, Gqeberha, Eastern Cape. The conference theme in 2025 is \u201cMaking Labour Law Work for All,\u201d reflecting a commitment to adapting labour law to the country\u2019s evolving workplaces and strengthening its inclusivity and effectiveness.<\/p>

Influence and Collaboration<\/b><\/p>

SASLAW senior members continue to be called upon to serve as acting judges in the Labour Courts, highlighting the association\u2019s respected role in the legal community. The judiciary regularly consults SASLAW for expert input on key matters impacting the practice of labour law. <\/p>

Pro Bono Programme<\/b><\/p>

The SASLAW Pro Bono programme remains an indispensable part of justice administration at South Africa\u2019s four Labour Courts. Since its creation in February 2011, the initiative has assisted almost 30,000 clients, underscoring SASLAW\u2019s commitment to access to justice for vulnerable workers and employers nationwide.<\/p>

Young Scholars and Future Leadership<\/b><\/p>

SASLAW provides strong support for early-career professionals through initiatives like the Young Scholars Society (YSS) and related networking events and hybrid conferences, encouraging the next generation of labour law leaders in South Africa.<\/span><\/p>
